The SMAF Chemistry students were lucky enough to have Professor Warren Lawrance, the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, present to them on his field of research: Atomic Spectroscopy.
Spectroscopy investigates how matter, light and the universe behave.
He told an interesting story of how 100 years ago there was debate raging as to whether atoms and molecules even existed, but how their discovery caused a scientific revolution.
Students used this information to determine what element is inside a fluorescent tube.
